BEST HOCKEY MEMORIES?

Basically, Junior Hockey…Aviemore…Dave Evans and Nipps coaching…Paddy, Big Kev, Damon, the Huffy's…the games with Billingham and Grimsby…it was always enjoyable.

Also, all the good friendships and unique people I've met along the way!

WORST HOCKEY MEMORIES:

I don't have any…any negative points have always worked out to be positive in the long run. For example, if I hadn't have been treated badly by Blackburn, I wouldn't have come back to Alty and have been enjoying playing
with the players that I grew up playing with. Any injuries aren't really bad memories, they're part and parcel of the game.

BIGGEST INFLUENCE WITHIN ICE HOCKEY:

Firstly, my parents, because of all the baggage that comes with having a son that plays Ice Hockey (cost, lifts to training at daft hours, etc). Almost definitely Nipper (Dad), because he coached me as a junior and help me to achieve my ambition of playing Ice Hockey for GB. He's always dedicated a lot of his time to something he loves and most people don't really realise, or appreciate how much he has influenced most if not all of the players, from the junior teams through to the senior team, at Altrincham. I know he comes across as being a loud and abrasive, but he's nice…no REALLY he is!

Also, Roy Warren, because if he hadn't have had the mentality of playing players for who they were, rather than how good they were, I wouldn't have gone to play for Blackburn and enjoyed 5 memorable years with the Hawks. He held me back, but at the same time also forced me to take the step, which helped me to progress! Again, an example of a negative experience, which turned out for the better!

PEOPLE YOU ADMIRE WITHIN ICE HOCKEY?

Anyone who plays Ice Hockey and is willing to learn, work hard and dedicate their money, time and effort for something
they enjoy. I haven't got time for the people who just turn up for the sake of having something to do, and are happy just to compete…set your standards high, after all second place is the first loser!

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR NICKNAME?

To cut a long story short, my one of my other nicknames is Millsey, but the Swedish imports at Blackburn couldn't pronounce it and it always came out Mausey, then it eventually got cut down to Mau and then I became the Captain. Luckily, I was made the Captain at Alty too.

Millsey for obvious reasons, and Samuel, (usually only by Nipper) because my initials spell SAM.

DREAM HOCKEY LINE (BRITS):

I don't have one, besides, there are players at this club that would have eclipsed British players from other clubs had they been given the same opportunities.

DREAM LINE (FOREIGNERS):

If I really have to, I would have Michel Couvrette, Steve Moria and Oleg Sinkov as forwards and Ryan Kummu and Dale Jago.

I thought Couvrette and Marc Damphousse were awesome together. I would've had Moose on my list but after the fight with Ross Lambert, he was never the same player.

THOUGHTS ON BRITISH HOCKEY:

Not enough time, to explain it all, but the ISL is a joke, and the BNL is going to end up the same way if they're not careful. The EPL is ok, but the ENHL has a lot of faults. The imports in this country are no longer more skilful than the majority of the top British players, and definitely not as cool as the imports use to be. Anyone who experienced the Three-Import Era, and Old-Time-Hockey, will know exactly what I'm talking about! The Imports nowadays are just mercenaries of the sport, who can't make it in their own country!

ADVICE FOR YOUNG PLAYERS:

Always be willing to learn and work hard if you want to achieve anything in life. As long as you have the right attitude and you learn to listen to the people that really matter, you'll do well. Too many players know it all and aren't willing to take advice or criticism. Usually, the people who learn from the advice and the criticism end up the better players.
